The Thai capital makes for an exciting city break. Pamper the family with a stay at one of the city's luxury hotels
Bangkok is located on the Chao Phraya River and was once two cities, Krung Thep on the east bank and Thon Buri on the west. The two municipalities were connected by several bridges and around 50 years ago the two areas became one province, Bangkok Metropolis.
This bustling city is bursting with culture, from Buddhist temples and royal palaces to high-end shopping malls in glitzy skyscrapers and markets on both pavement and water. Catching one of the passenger ferries that ply the Chao Phraya is a thrilling experience.
Other not-to-be-missed attractions include cruising the klongs and their floating markets in a long-tail boat, visiting the Royal Palace and tucking into some of the best food in Asia, from basic street food to Michelin-starred restaurants.
