British Airways will be flying to Hong Kong again from December.
British Airways has announced it is set to resume passenger flights with Hong Kong from December 5.
Following the announcement from Hong Kong government on Friday (September 23) that the city will be scrapping hotel quarantine from Monday September 26, the carrier has confirmed it will be taking off for the Asian hub again this winter.
The first British Airways flight, BA31, is due to touch down at Hong Kong International Airport at 2.40pm on December 6. The return flight, BA32, will take-off for London at 11.05pm. This service will operate four times a week until December 18, when a daily service will be offered.
“We are thrilled to reinstate such an important route and cannot wait to welcome our customers back on board our direct flight between Hong Kong and London,” said Noella Ferns, British Airways’ head of sales for Asia Pacific. “We have been flying to Hong Kong for more than 85 years and this remains an extremely important market to us.”
A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will be used on the route, offering first, Club World (business), World Traveller Plus (premium economy) and World Traveller (economy) cabins.
British Airways suspended its service with Hong Kong in November 2021. Sources at the time said the carrier took the decision after crew members tested positive at Hong Kong airport and were forced into government isolation at the notorious Penny’s Bay facility on Lantau Island. Several other airlines also suspended their Hong Kong service faced with increasingly draconian travel regulations from the Hong Kong government for both crew and passengers.
Hotel quarantine in Hong Kong will be dropped from 6am on Monday September 26. However, restrictions will still apply to travellers into the city, including eleven separate Covid tests and restricted entry to bars, restaurants and other ‘high risk’ venues on the first three days.
Bookings for the British Airways’ Hong Kong service can be made online.
