Capella at Galaxy Macau set to open

No expense has been spared on this new property, from private infinity pools and in-room cocktail bars to Michelin-starred chefs

Capella hotel to open in Macau

The property's Sky Villas come with private, infinity-edge pools

Macau is set to welcome a Capella property to its shores with the announcement this week that Galaxy Entertainment Group is partnering with Capella Hotels and Resorts. This will be the first Capella property to open in the Greater Bay Area and will join the existing nine luxury hotels that make up the Galaxy Resort.

Galaxy has revealed that the new hotel, Capella at Galaxy Macau, will offer 36 Sky Villas and 57 suites over 17 storeys. Each Sky Villa will feature a balcony with infinity-edge pool, sunroom and hidden winter garden. The super-luxe villas will also include a butler pantry, karaoke room with cigar butler and premium collection, private cocktail bar and games room.

The suites are no less fabulous, with private plunge pools and balcony views over Macau.

The hotel’s interiors have been crafted by Paris-based design group Moinard Betaille with a jungle-style look inspired by Macau’s green hills. Moinard Betaille, which has previously worked on flagship properties for Cartier, Breitling and Audemars Piguet, says it was handed “exceptional freedom” for the Macau project.

“Macau’s adventurous spirit and rich history inspired our tropical jungle theme,” explained Bruno Moinard. “A central element of this project is our profound connection with water, inviting guests to imagine themselves suspended in their glistening pool.”

Capella’s signature living room amenity, Pony & Plume, will house a members only lounge and invitation-only terrace. The lounge is designed by Hong Kong’s Albert Kwan, whose previous design credits include Hong Kong’s China Club and Cipriani and London’s China Tang.

The polo-inspired, Moinard Betaille-designed bar will feature rare and limited-edition whiskies. A curated programme of Japanese whiskies of provenance will also be offered.

Capella at Galaxy Macau is also collaborating with award-winning Hong Kong chef Vicky Cheng on a fine-dining space which has been designed by Hong Kong’s Joyce Wang.

“We’re thrilled to create this magnificent embodiment of ultra-luxury 21st century hospitality in partnership with Capella Hotels and Resorts,” said Francis Lui, vice chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group. “This collaboration aligns with our strategic growth plan to establish unique flagship properties within the Galaxy Macau integrated resort and beyond.”

Capella at Galaxy Macau is slated to open in mid-2025.
