Cathay Pacific to launch Rome service

Cathay Pacific Rome

Cathay is jetting off to Rome this summer

Cathay Pacific is adding Rome to its itinerary this summer. The airline announced this week that the Italian capital will be its 12th European destination with flights taking off from June 5.

The seasonal service will initially run just three times a week. Cathay already operates a five-days-a-week service to Milan which will increase to a daily service in the summer.

The Rome service is timed to coincide with Year of the Jubilee celebrations taking place in Italy's capital. This event takes place once every 25 years and includes events and celebrations both in Vatican City and Rome throughout the year.

“Cathay Pacific’s history in Italy stretches back close to 40 years when we first launched direct flights between Hong and Rome in 1986,” said Cathay’s chief commercial officer Lavinia Lau. “We know our customers have been eagerly anticipating the return on this route and we’re delighted to be returning to Italy’s marvellous capital this summer.”

The route will be operated with Airbus A350s offering business, premium economy and economy cabins. Flight CX293 will take off from Hong Kong at 12.45am on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, landing in Rome at 7.45am. The return flight, CX292, leaves Rome at 11.45am, landing back in Hong Kong at 5.20am, also on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

According to Cathay, it is now focused on reaching 100 destinations in 2025, with six cities already announced for 2025. In addition to Rome, they include Hyderabad, India in March, Dallas, US in April, Munich, Germany in June and Brussels, Belgium in August. A service to Sendai, Japan, was launched this month by Cathay’s low-cost carrier, HK Express.
