Culture and kids' fun at Andaz Macau

Andaz Macau opened last year to great fanfare. With more than 700 rooms and suites it's the largest Andaz property in the world. Stacey Marcelo checked in with the kids

Andaz Macau opened in September 2023

Andaz Macau, one of the most recently opened luxury properties located within the Galaxy Macau resort complex, is perhaps not the first hotel that comes to mind when considering a family stay, but I soon discovered there is more than meets the eye to this vibrant new lifestyle concept.

Spread across two towers, this is the brand’s largest property, with 715 rooms and suites that draw inspiration from local art, culture, and architecture. Located between the neighbourhoods of Old Taipa and Coloane, the hotel pays homage to Macau’s heritage with thoughtful east-meets-west design and interesting art pieces celebrating the city's heritage and future.

For families with kids, you have easy access to the world-class facilities of Galaxy Macau, most notably the Grand Resort Deck which houses a children’s aquatic zone, waterslides, a wave pool and adventure rapids, as well as the new Galaxy Kidz Edutainment Center.

Stylish accommodation

The hotel's guestrooms and suites are modern, spacious and draw inspiration from the surrounding neighborhood, with a vibrant palette of forest greens and earthy orange hues in a nod to the landscapes of neighbouring Coloane island. Families can choose from a variety of options, including interconnected rooms and suites that feature a complimentary minibar stocked with local treats including a beautiful box of biscuits from the city’s legendary Yeng Kee Bakery.

Thoughtful touches that we appreciated included the wireless charging stations, in-room steamer to press your clothes and a powerful hairdryer.

Rooms can also be set-up with kids' tents and amenities

There was a kids tent set up in the master bedroom chock-full of thoughtful amenities, including personalised welcome notes, backpacks, robe towels, hand towels; as well as an activity pack, a Wavey the peacock plushie (Wavey is the Galaxy Kidz mascot), kids toiletries and slippers. The attention to detail to the children’s in-room amenities is truly on another level. My kids were squealing with delight.

A culinary journey

Prepare to embark on a culinary adventure at Andaz Kitchen, a vibrant all-day-dining experience with live cooking and a diverse range of Chinese, Portuguese, and Western cuisine. The inspiration behind the restaurant’s design comes from a series of old Macau shophouses, where the flavour and character of each room are a reflection of the cuisine on offer.

The breakfast buffet certainly didn't disappoint. Guests can indulge in a selection of Chinese and Western breakfast favourites with live cooking stations in the background.

We also sampled their impressive dinner menu and if you’re a seafood lover, don’t miss their signature Portuguese seafood rice with clams, mussels, prawns, and Boston lobster, as well as Razor clam rice with Atlantic wreckfish and coriander pesto.

Andaz Kitchen serves a wide menu

However, the kids were having none of that and opted for Cantonese classics like sweet and sour pork, stir-fried beef rice noodles and barbecue meats which were a hit. With extensive menus and kid-friendly options, parents can rest assured that your little ones will find something to delight their palates.

Parents can unwind at the stylish Andaz Bar, where expert mixologists craft creative cocktails, or relax and have a coffee at the Andaz Lounge after a day of exploring.

Children's entertainment

After check-in, we strolled over to the brand new Galaxy Kidz Edutainment Centre located on the second floor of the Galaxy Hotel. Young guests staying at any hotel within Galaxy Macau are eligible for a complimentary two-hour session.

Spanning 1,200 square meters, it's home to ten interactive zones, where children can immerse themselves in a world of play and discovery. Each zone offers a range of engaging activities, combining fun and learning. It's worth checking the schedule when you arrive and start booking activities as they get snapped up quickly. Kids can enjoy guided arts and crafts, science experiments, unleash their inner master chef at Wavey's Kitchen, alongside outdoor activities and educational movies.

Serene swimming at the Andaz Macau indoor pool

The Galaxy Kidz staff were warm, friendly, and attentive, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for young guests.

Meanwhile, kids and kids-at-heart are in for a treat with complimentary access to the magnificent Grand Resort Deck at Galaxy Macau. Spanning an impressive 75,000 square meters, this aquatic park has the lot - adventure rapids, the world's largest skytop wave pool, a white sand 'beach', a splash zone and a thrilling waterslide mountain.

Andaz guests can also take a dip in the hotel’s 19-meter indoor swimming pool or sweat it out at the 24-hour fitness centre. But with kids in tow, you'll most likely be heading straight to the Grand Resort Deck.

Needless to say, we all slept well that night.
