Everything you need to know about Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025

This year Hong Kong Sevens celebrates its 49th anniversary and a move to a new home. Here's everything you need to know about Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025

Hong Kong Sevens 2025

The infamous South Stand will be back and better than ever

Hong Kong Sevens is one of Asia’s most popular sporting events and the jewel in the crown of Hong Kong’s busy sporting calendar.

It kicked off in 1976 with just 12 teams playing in front of a crowd of 3,000 and has grown today to a three-day tournament featuring 30 teams from all over the world. This year Hong Kong Sevens will take place in the brand new Kai Tak Stadium at Kai Tak Sports Park.

Who’s playing

This year 30 teams will be taking part in the tournament.

Men’s SVNS - New Zealand, Argentina, Australia, Fiji, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Kenya, Spain, South Africa, Uruguay, USA.

Women’s SVNS - New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Fiji, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, Spain, USA.

Melrose Claymores - Hong Kong China Men will take on China and Japan; Hong Kong China Women will face Kazakhstan and Thailand.

When does it take place?

This year’s event runs from Friday March 28 to Sunday March 30. The action kicks off at 7.30am on Friday March 28 with a series of mini teams showcasing local rugby.

Is there any other entertainment?

Aside from the rugby action on the pitch, Kaiser Chiefs will be headlining Hong Kong Sevens this year and will be playing live from 4.30pm on Sunday March 30.

As well, Italian singer Gala will be performing tracks from her multi-platinum album Freed From Desire from 2.30pm on Saturday March 29.

And the legendary DJ Pete Tong will be setting the dancefloor alight between matches from 6.30pm on Saturday March 29 with his Ibiza Anthems set.

What can we expect from the new stadium?

The swanky new 50,000 seater stadium is located in Kai Tak and is part of the Kai Tak Sports Park complex. It represents a serious upgrade on Hong Kong Sevens’ former home at Hong Kong Stadium in Happy Valley.

Don’t worry, old favourites like the South Stand remain, but with improvements (and fabulous views over the harbour). The new venue offers more than 30 food and drink outlets as well as one of Asia’s longest bars. There’s also a fully retractable roof and in-stadium cooling - perfect for this unpredictable time of year in Hong Kong.

How do you get to the new stadium?

Two MTR stops are equidistant from the stadium - disembark at either Kai Tak or Sung Wong Toi stations.

How much are tickets?

Ticket prices remain unchanged for 2025 - three-day tickets cost HK$1,950 and $950 for a three-day child ticket (ages 3-12).

A limited number of single-day tickets are available via Klook. These are priced at $500 (Adult Friday), $1,200 (Adult Saturday), $1,200 (Adult Sunday, $300 (Child Friday), $600 (Child Saturday) and $600 (Child Sunday). More details online.
