International hotel group Anantara is putting family first at its third China property as construction begins this month on a luxury hotel in Zhejiang Province.

Anantara Anji will be located in Anji County in the northwest of the province. The site is around three hours’ drive from Shanghai or an hour from Hangzhou.

Anji County is renowned in China as a nature lovers’ destination, with its cooler climate and a stunning scenery made up of emerald mountains and tea plantations. The area is also famous for its 60,000 acres of bamboo groves and is a designated pilot county for ecological and green building construction. The local eco-agricultural and tourism sectors are justifiably proud of the region’s green product output, including white tea, alpine veggies and flowers.

Anantara Anji is to be built on 165 acres of land and will offer 162 guest rooms of varying sizes - ideal for larger and multigenerational family groups - an outdoor pool, four dining spaces, a fitness centre and a children’s activity zone.

In line with its natural surroundings, Anantara Anji will also boast an Anantara Spa with healing and wellness facilities, a Zen pavilion and a raft of sustainable workshops well-suited for creating family-bonding moments, such as tree planting activities.

Nearby are ancient temples and the home of Wu Changshuo, a painter, calligrapher and seal artist during the late Qing Dynasty (1640s to 1912). Day trips can also be made to the area’s famous bamboo forests, stream rafting sites or to harvest tea at nearby plantations.

Construction is due to be completed in 2024 when Anantara Anji will join Anantara Guiyang Resort in Guizhou Province and Anantara Xishuangbanna Resort in Yunnan Province. Here's hoping travel restrictions will have eased by then.
