Gran Meliá Lombok in pipeline

Villas at Gran Meliá Lombok have private plunge pools.

Gran Meliá Lombok is in the holiday pipeline, as Spanish hospitality group Meliá sets its sights on Bali's quieter neighbour.

Gran Meliá Lombok will be opening its doors in 2024 in Torok Bay in the south of the island of Lombok.

The resort will offer 22 beachside villas plus another 105 villas on the mountainside that slopes down to the crystal-clear waters in the bay. All accommodation will have private infinity pools with ocean views.

Lombok is located to the east of Bali and has long-been a favoured destination of divers and surfers. It had been growing in popularity with families prior to the pandemic. Quieter than its neighbouring island, Lombok drew visitors looking to enjoy a stunning, rugged landscape and postcard-perfect beaches. In 2019, it welcomed 16 million international visitors.

The resort will be maximising natural light and ocean views.

Families will be welcomed at Gran Meliá Lombok with a kids’ club and a programme of activities designed for the whole family.

Dining spaces at this stage will boast ocean views and “world-class dining options”.

The resort will also open its YHI Spa as well as a fitness centre.

Gran Meliá Lombok is owned by property development company Invest Islands, which is based on the island as well as operating from offices in Bali and Hong Kong.

The company focuses on ecological solutions, such as employing local materials and craftsmen, or using its organic farm and plastic recycling centre. Invest Islands Foundation works to improve education and healthcare, protect the environment and empower local women.

“Gran Meliá Lombok is a huge milestone for Invest Islands,” said co-founder Jack Brown. “One of the key parallels we have with the Meliá brand is a focus on low carbon developments. Gran Meliá Lombok has a very low density building and a lot of natural green space.”

Gran Meliá Lombok is Melia Hotels International’s 12th property in Indonesia. Eight are hotels are currently in operation and a further four are pending opening.
