HK Express launches weekly flight with Singapore

Budget carrier HK Express will be flying regularly to Singapore.

Low cost carrier HK Express has announced it will be flying directly between Hong Kong and Singapore from February.

Hong Kong may have one of the strictest quarantines in the world as it pursues a zero-Covid strategy, but this hasn’t stopped HK Express from launching a weekly flight between the two Asian hubs.

From February 1, passengers will be able to fly every Tuesday, with the outgoing flight taking off from Chek Lap Kok at 12.35pm and landing at 4.25pm, while the return flight departs Singapore at 6pm and lands back in Hong Kong at 10.05pm.

“Singapore truly has it all,” said Mandy Ng, chief executive officer of HK Express. “Whether our customers are visiting Singapore for business or to visit family, HK Express will provide a safe and seamless experience every step of the journey. We anticipate a steady stream of demand for travel on this route once travel restrictions ease.”

However, while Singapore is actively working towards reopening its travel lanes with the rest of the world, Hong Kong has adopted an increasingly repressive travel policy. Over the festive period the city banned flights from no fewer than eight countries, including the US, the UK, France and Australia.

And while Singapore has opened up to Hong Kong arrivals, offering an Air Travel Pass for quarantine-free access to both returning Singapore residents as well as visitors, travellers arriving from Singapore into the Special Administrative Region of China must be a Hong Kong resident and must also quarantine for 21 days in a designated hotel, as well as undergoing frequent testing.

Travellers from Hong Kong with an approved Travel Pass for Singapore must simply take an arrival PCR test and self-isolate in their accommodation until a negative test result is received.

Putting a positive spin on events, at least HK Express is providing another route into Hong Kong at a time when international flights linking the city with the rest of the world are few and far between.
