Hong Kongers might have a little bit of Aussie sunshine to look forward to this winter as Hong Kong Airlines announces more flights ‘down under’.
The airline announced this week that it would be starting a four-times a week service to Gold Coast, on Australia’s east coast, starting in January.
Australia’s Gold Coast is a region south of Brisbane and famous for its miles of beaches, top surfing spots and mega-theme parks such as Dreamworld, Sea World and Wet ‘n’ Wild.
It’s an area also renowned for its stunning hiking trails, taking in native rainforest and rare birds.
Gold Coast Airport (formerly known as Coolangatta Airport) is located about 90 km south of Brisbane in Southeast Queensland.
Hong Kong Airlines will be flying A330 wide-body aircraft to Gold Coast Airport from January 17, although the service will run for just five weeks to cover the Chinese New Year period.
The outbound service will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with flight HK015 taking off from Hong Kong at 10pm and landing at 8.55am in Australia. The return flight, HX016, will run on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, taking off from the Gold Coast at 10.25am and touching down in Hong Kong at 5.20pm.
“Tourism is in our city’s DNA and we look forward to welcoming visitors via Hong Kong Airlines back to the Gold Coast to experience everything we have to offer,” said City of Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate.
