Hong Kong's Le Méridien to close for renovation

The future look for Umami restaurant and bar at Le Méridien Cyberport, Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s Le Méridien hotel will be closing its doors this month for a six month renovation.

The Cyberport-based hotel is located in the leafy environs of Hong Kong Island’s southside area and most recently has proved a popular quarantine destination for returning residents. The hotel will shut on April 20 for its facelift. All 170 hotel rooms, four restaurants, meeting rooms and public areas will be completely redesigned. The target reopening date is November 2021.

Le Méridien Hong Kong Cyberport opened in 2004 and has been an attractive property for both leisure and business travellers, with ocean and green views and proximity to Hong Kong’s Central district. The hotel is also close to Hong Kong's popular Ocean Park theme park, as well as Pok Fu Lam Reservoir with hiking access to Victoria Peak.

Hong Kong-based architects ALT-254 will lead the redesign. The brief is to marry the interior with the surrounding nature. The hotel will continue to focus on art accessibility, offering local experiences to tourists with displays that use video art, digital print and virtual reality activation via smartphone camera.

Le Méridien staff will be relocated to other Marriott International properties in Hong Kong or offered voluntary leave. A skeleton staff will continue to work at the property during the renovation and all associates will be invited to return to work once the redesign is completed.

“We look forward to the spectacular transformation of Le Méridien Hong Kong, Cyberport,” said general manager Pierre-Antoine Penicaud. “The project will significantly enhance and elevate the experience for all guests. I would like to recognise and thank our incredible associates for their direction over the past years and in particular the last 12 months. Under those exceptional circumstances our team has been caring and providing exceptional levels of genuine hospitality to our guests and the local community.”
