How to do Art Central Hong Kong 2025

Everything you need to know about this year’s Art Central

Art Central Hong Kong

Art Central is located on the Harbourfront in Hong Kong

Art Central opens today, celebrating its tenth year at the heart of Hong Kong Arts Month.

Housed in the distinctive pop-up tent on the Harbourfront, the event hosts hundreds of new and established artists from around the world. If you’re an art aficionado, or just an art lover, you’re welcome to drop in and browse between now and Sunday.

This year’s Art Central curator Enoch Cheng welcomes no fewer than 108 galleries and 500 artists from around the globe, with representations from Latvia, Serbia and Lithuania for the first time. The event will feature gallery exhibitions, performances, installations, workshops, talks and dining.

Cheng underscored at yesterday’s launch preview that Art Central will be focusing on gallery art this year as well as introducing a new ‘Legend’ initiative. Senior artists born before 1970 who have made valuable contributions to the world of art will be highlighted at the event, giving visitors the opportunity to view museum-standard work.

Cheng said this year’s event would also be renewing its focus on photographic art.

“We’re incredibly pleased with the quality of gallery presentations to be staged at Art Central’s tenth edition, and especially with the new gallery features, Legend, and the special feature on Photography,” he told assembled media.  “We hope to build a strong and healthy art scene for another decade to come.”

What to look out for at this year’s Art Central

Legend

This newly introduced gallery presents the work of artists born before 1970, each with a dedicated space within their gallery’s booth. Special exhibits from six influential artists from Asia Pacific have been selected to participate in Legend. Artists hail from Japan, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Neo

Neo returns to Art Central for its second year. It created an entry point for galleries to feature undiscovered artists in their first and second years of participation. Fifteen galleries from Asia, Europe and the Americas have been selected to showcase new artists this year.

Yi Tai Sculpture and Installation Projects

This is a well-loved sector of Art Central, curated by Enoch Cheng and with large-scale works by global artists.

Performance and Lecture-performance Programme

Art Central introduces ‘lecture-performance’ this year, an art form which focuses on research-based performances carried out through a combination of text, imagery and movement and presented throughout each day at the fair’s Central Theatre.

Video Art Programme

This new programme explores a diverse range of moving image work and will exclusively feature curated works from the Akeroyd Collection, part of the collection of Hong Kong-based philanthropist Shane Akeroyd. Presented for an hour each day, visitors can experience the moving-image based works at Cinema Central, a dedicated video theatre.

Talks

The engaging Talks programme explores trends in contemporary art with speakers from Hong Kong and around the world. City University of Hong Kong will present a discussion on robotic art; Hong Kong Arts Centre explores the power of creativity, collecting and cross-disciplinary connections; and Hong Kong Art School will explore how creative approaches can revitalise traditional crafts.

AI Tours

Art Central introduces a new AI-powered digital guide this year that’s designed to elevate the visitor experience. In collaboration with Brushstroke AI, the bespoke application offers personalised tours based on individual interests, provides answers to questions about artwork and artists and shares details on programmes and events. Visitors can access AI Tours for free at the introductory booth by the Fair's entrance.

Guided tours

Complimentary small group tours led by industry professionals and trained docents are also on offer for the public multiple times daily, starting at designated meeting points as indicated on the Fair Map. English and Cantonese tours are conducted separately. Tours cannot be booked in advance and are on a first-come basis only.
