After a substantial refresh, this Causeway Bay stalwart is now 'soft-opened'. Carolynne Dear was invited for a tour
French elegance at Lanson Place, Hong Kong
Upmarket Hong Kong hotel Lanson Place has now ‘soft’ opened following a punchy 16-month refurbishment.
Lanson Place first opened in 2005 and after many months serving as a quarantine hotel for Hong Kong residents attempting to return home during the recent pandemic, the Causeway Bay property shut its doors for a year-and-a-half refresh in 2022. And what a difference several months makes.
Artwork, often from local artists, fills the hotel
I was invited for a tour a few days after the reopening at the beginning of this month and was impressed with the smart decor and attention to detail. The redesign elevates the property into Hong Kong’s luxury hotel band, competing with the likes of Grand Hyatt just up the road.
According to the marketing team, the stylish, relaxing retreat is designed to contrast with the energy of Causeway Bay. Lanson Place is located in the heart of the action in Hong Kong’s premier shopping district and just steps from shops and restaurants.
The hotel is the hospitality group’s flagship property and no expense appears to have been spared in creating a sophisticated destination for guests. It benefits from a wide range of artworks, some by local artists, some from the personal collection of owners Wing Tai Properties, making for something of an art gallery-worthy experience when wandering around. World-class designer Pierre-Yves Rochon is behind the redesign and the interiors blend French elegance with contemporary shapes and soft colours.
The stylish Salon Lanson
There are 188 rooms and suites in total, although not all are ready yet for use. Along with those that opened this month, fifty further rooms, including the penthouse, are due to come online shortly. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill each room with natural daylight and guests can enjoy superb views over bustling Causeway Bay. Suites offer a separate lounge with kitchen area, which would be entirely useful for those travelling with small children.
A generous gym is spread over most of the fifth floor, with plenty of equipment as well as fabulous city views. Pilates and yoga classes will be offered to guests.
The generously proportioned gym and workout area
A stunning all-day lounge, Salon Lanson, on the first floor serves a semi-buffet breakfast, dining experiences and cocktails, although it’s only open to hotel guests.
Lanson Place is one of seven Asia-based residences owned by Wing Tai Properties. The group plans to grow the Lanson Place brand across Asia Pacific and it has a property in Melbourne slated to open this year.
