Lounge perks for delayed travellers with SmartDelay

Airport delays are an inevitable part of travel but can be tiresome to navigate comfortably when you're stuck in an airport.

Step forward airport experience specialist Collinson International who is now partnering with China Ping An Insurance (Hong Kong) to provide travellers with much appreciated support if their flight is delayed or cancelled.

According to recent statistics, almost 33 million travellers across Asia Pacific have been impacted by more than an hour of flight delays. This means many of us are likely to find ourselves in the stressful situation of having to navigate tiresome additional hours on the ground.

In partnership with Collinson, China Ping An Insurance (Hong Kong) has come up with a product known as ‘SmartDelay’. It’s available across all three tiers of China Ping An Insurance (Hong Kong) travel insurance policies, regardless of the airline the policy holder is booked with, and means delayed customers can take advantage of a spa experience, a sleep pod visit or a restaurant discount, all without having to fill-in a claims form.

As soon as a delay of more than an hour is announced, travellers are sent a QR code inviting them to visit an airport lounge or take advantage of another benefit. All policy holders need to do is ensure they register their flight no fewer than two hours before the scheduled departure time with China Ping An Insurance (Hong Kong). The policy also enables one additional person travelling with the policyholder to take advantage of the SmartDelay benefits.

“Increased passenger traffic can result in a more challenging journey,” noted Todd Handcock, global chief commercial officer at Collinson International. “The ability to escape busy public spaces within airports and relax in a quiet sanctuary is increasingly attractive to travellers - especially when experiencing added stress from a flight delay or cancellation.”

Once a traveller has registered their flight, they will have access to more than 1,600 global airport lounges or alternative benefits if their flight is delayed or cancelled. In Hong Kong, eligible customers can use Kyra Lounge, Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, Plaza Premium Lounges, Putien and Intervals Sky Bar & Restaurant.
