Major upgrade for Mandarin Oriental Bangkok - artist's impression of the new-look Garden Wings
Bangkok’s grande dame, Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is set to receive a major makeover.
Following the multi-million dollar restoration of the hotel’s historic River Wings in 2019, the hotel will now undergo a further room renovation, this time in the hotel’s Garden Wings. The new interiors will be designed by Jeffrey Wilkes, who will also be working on the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong upgrade, and will take their inspiration from the exotic gardens that surround both wings.
The renovation project also includes major changes to the hotel’s dining offerings.
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok’s award-winning Le Normandie French restaurant, which first opened in 1958 as the first fine dining restaurant in Thailand, will receive an interior transformation and in the autumn, the world’s most awarded female chef, Anne-Sophie Pic, will be taking the helm.

Meanwhile, Michelin-starred chef Alex Dilling will be taking over at Lord Jim’s with a fresh, more relaxed take, centred on cooking over fire with seasonal ingredients for a sharing-style dining experience.
The China House will also undergo a redesign and will be introducing Michelin-starred chef Fei, one of China’s most renowned chefs with award-winning restaurants in Mandarin Oriental hotels in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing. He will be focusing on the regional flavours of Chaosan.
Over the river, Thai restaurant Baan Phraya will undergo a refurbishment that channels Thailand’s architectural heritage.
The project will also include a redesign of the hotel’s Fitness Centre.
The redevelopment work has now started and is expected to be completed at the end of the year in time for the celebratory events planned to mark the hotel’s 150th anniversary in 2026. Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok recently starred in HBO's hit The White Lotus series three.
