Qantas is set to join Cathay Pacific at Hong Kong's Airport Express in-town check-in facility from next week.

The facility is a useful service for travellers from Hong Kong whereby they can check in luggage up to 24 hours before departure at the city centre counter locations of Hong Kong station and Kowloon station.

This will be the first time in five years that Qantas passengers can make use of the in-town counter. Currently only Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines customers are able to take advantage of the service. The in-town counter service closed indefinitely during the pandemic, resuming at Hong Kong station in 2023 and at Kowloon station in 2024.

From Monday February 10, Qantas passengers will be able to check in luggage ahead of their flight at Hong Kong station between 7am and 6pm and at Kowloon station between 7am and 3pm.

Luggage is sent on to the airport ahead of the flight, leaving passengers to enjoy their departure day baggage-free in Hong Kong.

Baggage checked in at the in-town check-in counters should not measure more than 145cm in length, 100cm wide, 85cm high, and should not weigh more than 32kg.

According to rail operator MTR corp, other airlines are "welcome" to provide an in-town check-in service.
