SensoryScape is one of a raft of new attractions on Sentosa Island
Major hotel and attraction expansions have been revealed this month in Singapore as hospitality operators battle to increase visitor numbers to the city state.
Resort operator Genting Singapore has announced it will be starting work on a US$5bn expansion of Resorts World Sentosa on Singapore’s Sentosa Island.
The development will kick-off this month and will include two new luxury hotels offering 700 rooms. New attractions will feature a Harry Potter interactive art experience which also launches in November and the opening of Minion Land in Universal Studios Singapore in the first quarter of next year.
Resorts World Sentosa closed Hard Rock Hotel earlier this year for a full renovation and rebranding. Its SEA Aquarium attraction is currently closed on two days of the week as it is expanded into Singapore Oceanarium.
Competitor Marina Bay Sands has also issued an update this month on the current US$1.75bn refurbishment of its three hotel towers, which started in 2022. The project includes the addition of 1,850 new hotel rooms, including 775 suites, bringing the total number of rooms and suites to 4,410.
Marina Bay Sands is also developing a fourth tower, with work due to start in summer 2025. This expansion will create 570 new hotel rooms as well as a 15,000-seat entertainment space.
