There’s plenty on the menu as Stacey Marcelo reveals the the best new restaurants to open in Hong Kong this spring
Picanhas'

Hong Kong's best new restaurants spring 2025 - succulent steaks at Picanhas
Craving a good steak? Elgin Street’s newest hotspot, Picanhas' is slinging Latin American vibes and juicy cuts straight from the grill. Think fiery open kitchens, chef-led theatrics, and wallet friendly prices. Helmed by chef Billy Otis (Black Sheep Restaurants alum) and backed by meat maestro Johnny Glover, this spot is all about bold flavors, communal feasting, and good vibes.
Diners can opt for cuts like the wagyu M9+ or the 200−day grain-fed angus, expertly grilled and drizzled with zesty chimichurri sauce. Complement your meal with sides including duck fat chips, Provoleta mac and cheese, empanadas and salads.
(PS The lunch set (HK$158) is a steal—picanha, fries, salad, churros, and a drink).
Picanhas', G/F, 27-29 Elgin Street, Central; 5348 0985.
Shanghai Plus

Hong Kong's best new restaurants spring 2025 - tuck into classic Shanghai dishes at Shanghai Plus
Hong Kong’s culinary scene just got a bold new player: Shanghai Plus has soft opened in Wan Chai’s revamped Shui On Centre. This isn’t your typical Cantonese spot. Helmed by award-winning Chef Edmond Ip (20+ years perfecting wok hei and slow-braising), the menu marries Shanghai traditions with Hong Kong flair.
Chef Ip’s new menu features 77 dishes during the soft opening phase. Highlights include the classic Shanghai fried pork ribs with a Cantonese twist, marinated in Okinawan black sugar and balsamic vinegar, topped with aged tangerine peel. Don’t miss the silken tofu Flower Soup, or the golden-skinned crispy pigeon paired with drunken egg. Lunch sets start at $638+ for two; dinners from $688.
Shanghai Plus, Shui On Centre, 6-8 Harbour Rd, Wan Chai; 2886 2818.
Pintxos by bàrbar

Hong Kong's best new restaurants spring 2025 - Basque bites at Pintxos de bàrbar by Edgard Sanuy
Enjoy a pre-dinner ‘Basque bite’ experience as Pintxos by bàrbar opens on Wan Chai’s infamous Ship Street. This is Epicurean Group’s fourth Spanish dining space (check out our review of Aire here) and is the city’s first dedicated pintxos bar.
Pintxos are small savoury bites inspired by Spain’s Basque country and are best enjoyed in good company with a Spanish tipple or two. Pintxos means ‘to puncture’ and perfectly describes how the small snacks are held together with a toothpick.
The menu at Pintxos by bàrbar highlights seasonal Spanish ingredients with hot options including tasty treats like US beef tenderloin and foie gras, pork belly with apple and celery and beef cheek ‘Milanese’ and cumberland sauce. There’s also a cold menu and a sweet menu with tempting traditional Spanish pastries and flans.
Appetites whetted, head over the road to Bàrbar for the main event.
Pintxos by bàrbar, G/F, 22 Ship Street, Wan Chai; walk-ins only.
Roucou

Hong Kong's best new restaurants spring 2025 - Roucou is Hong Kong's first cheese omakase
Forget everything you know about cheese boards - Roucou has landed in SoHo, transforming artisanal fromage into a high-concept culinary spectacle. This French-Japanese hybrid is founded by fromager Jeremy Evrard and showcases rare cheeses in playful, inventive formats, from a convivial bar to an intimate eight-seat omakase counter.
At the bar, cheese takes centre stage. Highlights include the melted open sandwich which combines a buttery puff pastry base with artichokes and pine nuts, while the baked baron bigod transforms French Brie-de-Meaux into a decadent, mushroom-topped dip. Even the cheeseboards tell a story, carved from fallen trees from Hong Kong typhoons, each engraved with storm names and dates. Diners can pair bites with Japanese-inspired cocktails like the Shiitake-Mimolette, a savory cocktail echoing aged cheese, or the Sakura-Ume which delivers a refreshing mix of plum and gin sour notes.
Roucou, G/F, 28 Aberdeen Street, Central; 9603 6591.
Servo

Hong Kong's best new restaurants spring 2025 - Servo has reopened on On Lan Street
The Arcane Collective brings Aussie dining culture to Hong Kong with Servo, a casual, no-frills eatery inspired by Australia’s beloved roadside pit stops. Think easygoing eats, bold coffee, and chilled chardy served with a side of Sydney-esque energy.
By day, it’s a caffeine pit stop featuring smashed avo on sourdough (spiked with chilli jam), bacon butties in HP sauce, smoothies and shakes. For lunch you’ll find flaky sausage rolls to teriyaki-glazed beef with roasted beets. Come dusk, share plates like charcuterie boards and hearty “chook” pies take over, paired with curated Aussie wines or craft beers. The vibe? Unpretentious and upbeat, with a playlist hopping from AC/DC to indie bangers.
Servo, G/F, Kowloon Dairy Building, 17-19 On Lan Street, Central; walk-ins only.
